Dumb legal question? If a pro. basketball player dunks and he weighs a lot and hangs onto the rim th

causing the backboard to shatter, knowing that another player was near him and then he falls onto the other player injuring him and causing the other player's career to end can the injured player sue the dunkee and if so does he have a good chance of winning the case?

What's up Daniel,

First this is America so you can pretty much sue for anything- so could a player do that probably.

i think the player would have a hard time winning the case because it's an occupational hazard and he would have to prove that the player who dunked the ball "pre-meditated the whole thing".

There would be plenty of "visual evidence" and witnesses without a doubt.

i imagine that the league would step-in and that's why there is a player's association who would make sure that player got compensated and taken care of most likely.

Also a lot of players take out insurance policies on themselves (even kids incollegein case they get hurt before they sign a multi-million dollar contract)... so thinking this would most likely be the case...

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster
usually when you play sports professionally you wave all rights for suing another player or the club you play for in case of injury, and you take complete responsibility for anything that happens while you play. usually those guys have special types of insurance that protects them from things like that.
Yeah, I would think he could. I'm not a lawyer so I'm not positive lol.
yea i think yes
